Do You Think Hollywood And The Video Game Industry Is Doing A Disservice To Firearms Owners?
All one has to do is go to a movie, or watch a child play a video game to see complete disregard for firearms safety and proper handling.
Do you think that hollyweird and the video game industry is partially responsible for the serious misconseptions people have about firearms and those of us who own and use them?
Have any of you ever based an opinion about firearms on what you’ve seen portrayed in movies or video games?
What role do you think our media has in the misconceptions people have about fireamrs and those of us who use them?

yes
most people only associate guns with the sort of overblown dramatic violence they see in movies, because that is their ONLY exposure to firearms.
I don’t base my opinion on firearms on movies or games, because I was raised by an NRA member who taught me the proper use and care of every gun he owned by the time I was 9 years old. He also made sure I knew how dangerous they can be if not handled properly.
The media, in all of their self-righteous judgement of gun-owners, portrays us all as psychos, criminals, and potential terrorists.
Fact of the matter is, you make laws to prevent people from having guns, and the psychos, criminals, and terrorists are the only people that WILL have them
No….if anything I think the Mass Media (movies, video games, and onward) does us more of a disservice the *other way* around–they promote the notion that *every problem* can be solved by the application of Ching-Ching POW, so to speak. ^_^ Really, I see the problem being that the Mass Media hypes up *gun Usage* to an inappropriately *Young* crowd for *ALL* the wrong reasons.
Consider one small example.
Bullet holes. They’re *never ever* realistically done. I know this because my own father was–among other worse things–a licensed gunsmith for about a decade. I learned more than *I EVER* wanted to know about ballistics, entry and exit wounds, and the sheer trauma a high-caliber or high-velocity bullet (never mind a shotgun for the moment) can inflict on a human body.
Yeah, people hype it up, saying, “Well, Fifty Cent got shot nine times and he *lived*…” But what that *doesn’t cover* is that he spent over a *Year* in rehab just so he could heal and walk and talk again. He still limps folks.
And for the most part, people just *don’t* get that lucky. Both shotguns and hollow-point bullets can *liquify* a human heart, making *slush* out of it, inside the chest. Even a .223 caliber bullet (high-velocity .22 caliber) can rip someone’s *head* clean off.
But nooo….Hollywood and the video game industry *never ever* show realistic ballistics, do they? It’s all just *one tiny* entry wound, a little blood, and that’s it. Exit wounds are never shown. Neither are any other details of the trauma inflicted on the body.
*That* is the disservice right there. People need to LEARN that getting shot *is not a Joke*. Guns and the bullets they use are *machines* engineered to *kill humans* efficiently. If you get hit by any modern bullet you *won’t* get back up, and will *need* medical attention instantly, if you don’t die right there.
Serious. People are too obsessed with the “entertainment” value of their *bang-bang*. They need to take a step back and realize how powerful and vicious these weapons are.
Ok. ^_^ You can hate me now.
I feel in a lot of cases that both industries do discredit us as law abiding and RESPONSIBLE gun owners.
I also feel the media is a major issue with gun owners. Just because a lot of news media is swayed by the feel good talk of anti-gunners because they themselves are uneducated. For example, an anti-gunner was being interviewed by two anchors on a news station and did not know what semi-auto meant. When they asked the interviewee said, “guns that have a large capacity of bullets can hold the trigger and shoot a lot of bullets in a little bit of time.” They answered with, “okay.” They had no idea she was off with her explanation.
And then you have those who think they know and really do not. When a news anchor asked a anti-gun senator what a barrel shroud was she dodged the question and then when asked again she said she did not know but point to her should as if she was strapping a sling around her arm. He then asked how can you support or introduce a law against something you have no idea what it actually is.
