I think both feed off eachother as most video games are based off of hollywood movies. And as you said people are swithcing to video games. …I however choose the internet ha ha.
for one, i am not much into hollywood movies. i think true movie fans are that. however, there is a hollywood movie effect, which you can see by attendance records before and during the release of gta4, if you want to check that out. certain videogames have that effect. i also think such games should be played by adults or people of a high maturity level, but again, it does effect movie attendance for a SHORT amount of time.
It is somewhat true that a good game release like Halo can trump whatever movie comes out. However, this really only hurts smaller films. Look at last week for example. Grand Theft Auto 4 came out the same week that Iron Man came out, yet Iron Man did really well. In some respect, Grand Theft Auto 4 was a more highly anticipated game than Halo 3. Mostly because it was on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Video games based on movies generally suck. And movies based on video games usually also suck. Therefore I’d have to say the two should stay as far apart as possible.
